Why email filtering no longer stops phishing on mobile

Phishing is how most attacks start, and mobile is increasingly where it lands. Email filtering was built for the inbox, but phishing now arrives by SMS, WhatsApp, QR code and social media, on a device that spends most of its time off the corporate network. Corrata's Head of Sales Matt O'Callaghan explains why a multilayered approach matters, and why watching what the device is actually doing catches a phishing link whatever app it came through.

Phishing has moved past the inbox
Phishing is how most attacks are starting, and mobile is increasingly where they are landing. Traditionally, businesses have taken the approach that email filtering is enough to protect themselves from these attacks, but this just isn’t the case anymore. Campaigns and attacks are being delivered through SMS, WhatsApp, by scanning a QR code, or even social media. Having a multi-layered approach to protect yourself, no matter where these attacks are being delivered, is vital.
Watching the device rather than the channel
In Corrata, we take the approach of watching what the actual device is doing, rather than worrying about where these campaigns are coming from. By implementing our on-device DPI (deep packet inspection), we’re making sure that all bases are covered, and no matter how these campaigns are trying to attack your organisation, we will have you covered.
Whatever app the link arrives in
If you scan that QR code, if you open that link in the email, if you open that link in WhatsApp, no matter where that campaign is being delivered, we will have you covered.
